I am talking about STOCK performance. I am virtually ignorant on the technical stuff. That is why I enjoy this thread. On the STOCK performance, the Celeron has been the wedge that allowed Intel to compete in the low-end and force competition into a no-profit price structure. Quite a feat for a garbage chip!!!

Will wait for a GOOD response on STOCK performance.

<can you explain how the performance differs from the old p 2s. or even the p 3s. And i'm talking about internet performance.>

Well, if all you're talking about is the time to download the latest Star Wars trailer on www.starwars.com (which is what I'm doing at this moment), you might as well buy a used 486 computer with Windows 3.11. They should be going for not much more than the price of the monitor alone. Of course, the 486 will be choking on the playback performance of the Quicktime video.

It's all the stuff you can do off the Internet that makes some people want to buy the latest and greatest. And some of those processor-intensive tasks may use the Internet as well. For example, the new Quake Arena game coming out will definitely be a hit among the online gaming faithful. But if your computer chokes on the high-quality graphics, the performance online will also suffer because the computer is so bogged down rendering the graphics. You'll have to crank down the quality of your game graphics to ease up on the resource requirements, but then this lessens the overall gaming experience.
