ctc, cpqs days in the channel have been reported to be less than last year for the same time frames... just b/c you don't know doesn't mean somebody doesn't.

chuzz, define "immediately." ;-) it doesn't mean a week... ;-) if i remember correctly, you weren't even the one who posted the data first...

Thanks for a great set of your typical rational posts. But last year it took days to clarify what you are saying, and many just gave up trying to follow the argument.

The reason these share trends are so hard to follow is because a direct vendor like DELL has no lag in sales data - sales in = sales out = sales to customers. But each of the other vendors has various pooling points where one or another of those numbers gets changed.

Is market share machines produced and sold at the factory? That's what affects revenue and earnings, but in the indirect model it can get disconnected from what is happening in the marketplace. Do we care more about what people are buying? In today's market that data is almost impossible to come by.

One thing is obvious - if this stuff is hard for us to comprehend, it is equally hard for the indirect vendors. One great advantage of a highly direct model is it is easy to understand and the numbers are what they are.
