I too am interested to know if there is data on how the Nifty Fifty performed for the 1962-1997 time-frame. As of now, I don't know of any source that can provide info on that. If it exists, and if I find it, I will post the info here. And you please do the same if you beat me to it!

And I wonder how you came up with your "loss averaging 20%" for the Dividend Achievers over the last 12 months. Bill Staton keeps tabs on a slightly different universe of stocks, which he calls "America's Finest Companies" -- companies that have increased either their dividends OR their earnings (or both) for 10 consecutive years or more. It is a universe of about 395 stocks as of last year. And to the best of my knowledge he doesn't report any such decline in the value of that basket for the year 1998. I will be very, very, very interested to know where this "20% loss" came from!
