Mohan, I am looking forward to the lemmings overreacting on Monday. I will be buying Dell like hot cakes at a fat man convention.

<<Dell is probably one of the few companies in the major leagues who make money by spending very little of their own [that there is the killer application if you will],I think this is what most people fail to understand. >>

Mohan: You are on target here....DELL IMHO is a firm that doesn't have "a monopoly" but it clearly has generated better ROIC and better returns for investors than some of the co-called monopoly firms (like INTC and MSFT) ..<GGG>....

We are in business as investors to make MONEY and not bet on monopolies... I choose to bet on MSD and his team -- they have a unique virtual integration business model that is the envy of the high tech industry. Friday I sold the last of my AOL (at around $161)-- great company -- had a nice runup...but I diversified into some younger internut plays. DELL is now my highest market cap. company in the
portfolio and its got a reasonable valuation, great growth prospects, and is helping to enable the digital economy to reach its potential.

Best Regards,

Scott

mohan...re classic commodities...

the term can be applied to anything, in the form of speaking of any class of goods in a generic fashion...

further to your comments, and to rebut those that blatantly use the term...we must recognize that even a true commodity producer does not always have the same cost basis as his competition...e.g...alaskan north slope oil has higher production cost than arabian gulf oil...same commodity, but if priced identical to the market, one would be less profitable..

you understand as i and many on the thread that dells advantage is in its manufacturing efficiency and sales model....which equates to a basic business rule, that applies to all businesses be they commodity or high tech.... a low cost producer has an inherent market advantage over a high cost producer

do you think they will ever grasp this basic concept???
