El: It warms the cockles of my heart when you talk so positively. You may have noticed that I'm have not been a fan of using Alta Vista to "reward long suffering shareholders": CPQ should get the package right, and use it to raise money for the IPO (and indirectly for COMPAQ). However , I have changed my mind. I think the answer to your question is "AV". It is the one thing that would pull in the retail buyers and maybe even a few institutions who would like an "internut" ride with a Fortune 500 company. Last time AV was "announced", somewhat reluctantly and under pressure of an inaccurate CNBC leak, we got a short-lived pop of $3. If they could give more substance - a date and a share deal to stock holders, I think the pop would be higher and last longer. It might be an astute political move for a management team and a board which is going to be under fire from investors. If it is a close call about granting shareholders "free" or "cheap" shares, then the current crisis might swing it. I notice that she_x has been getting quite a bit of comment from Houston last week about AV and although some of it is contradictory or speculative, perhaps it is a sign that it is about to surface. EP evidently wants to stamp "internet" over COMPAQ at the Innovate Forum. How better to dramtise this and get acres of good publicity than by announcing the AV deal, together with a road map of how it is going to be integrated into COMPAQ's strategy. I suspect they are not ready yet, but to hell with that. They need something right now. They can always stick handle it so that whatever they "give away" to shareholders, can be got back from the market.
