To All: CPQ effect on after market on Friday-
Compaq down in after-hours trade on warning

NEW YORK, April 9 (Reuters) - Shares in Compaq Computer Corp. tumbled in volatile yet thin trading after normal market hours
Friday as the world's largest personal computer maker warned investors about lower-than-expected quarterly earnings.

"It's pretty choppy," said one dealer. "This late in the day, it doesn't look like there are many people around."

Compaq was trading at 26 after closing 1-5/16 higher at 30-15/16.

Its stock had been temporarily suspended from trading in anticipation of the announcement, made about a half hour after the
market close.

Compaq said it expected to post a profit of about $0.15 a share in first quarter, less than half of what analysts had forecast.

Revenues would reach about $9.4 billion, it said, blaming lower market demand and heightened competitive pricing in the
commercial personal computer sector.

The news led to a spurt of trading in other companies in the sector. Intel Corp. fell to 126-1/4 from a close of 130-13/16, Microsoft
Corp. slipped to 92-3/4 from 94-1/4, Dell Computer Corp. went down to 40-1/8 against 43-9/16, and Gateway 2000 Inc. was at
72-1/2 compared with 74-11/16.
