So, all the more reason that NATO should have treaded gingerly and not blunder into a potential minefield. Increasingly, while the conflict escalates, it looks like the West is being drawn into a trap of insoluble military and political unknowns --- very similar Vietnam, in fact, where initially the US also felt airpower and then conventional military confrontation would be decisive. This, like that, is headed to be a disaster for the West.

And in retrospect, when one looks at Vietnam, there is clearly no justification for either the war or the US involvement. So, I imagine it will be in the Balkans. They should have talked and talked and not allow Madeleine's frustration and Bill's expedience to have prevailed.
