I believe that Acer builds boxes for competitors.

meathead...re private labeling

it happens all the time in the electrical industry, where competitors will buy from each other a product that either they do not manufacture, or that can be a "buy out" for cost effectiveness...everything from circuit breakers to wiring devices and lighting...in some instances the "buy out" product can command a higher market price if it is "labeled" with a better brand name than the oem has...

this was the premise i was making earlier that was the cause of general electric and westinghouse either selling or closing down core business groups...they did such a good job of "private labeling" that they lost market in some areas with their own name...

there is no merit in dell taking over ibm facilities and work force, for they would inherit a contra manufacturing mentality...easier to build new plant and hire and train new work force to allow more of the pie to be eaten....

and if you want a better example, go no further than your sears store...all those "kenmore" labeled appliances.....

hope my comments help..ed a.
