I am long GLBX and love the story, but the link was a rehash of well-disseminated news and contains a number of mistakes. The merger with Frontier is pending SEC proxy filings, HSR approval and shareholder votes. It is not Robert Azzuniata but, I believe, Robert Annunziata. AC-1 is not the first transatlantic undersea fiberobtic. Those new to the story are better off looking at an April issue of Forbes or past GTR's. Regards. Liacos_samui.

Exhibit F -- Fiber Planned Underwater (Submarine) DWDM Capacity

That one makes me think of GBLX.

A mention of Frontier @ this link:

Advanced optical technology may provide this competitive edge. In terms of flexibility, optics are not tied to any one type of networking protocol or bit rate. Leveraging this advantage, carriers could conceivably plug IP (or ATM, or SONET) right into the optical layer. One advantage of a direct interface between IP and the optical layer is higher efficiency through the elimination of SONET overhead. However, many people believe SONET's overhead penalty is a small price to pay for its benefits. Carriers could also improve their responsiveness while simultaneously reducing their inventory and support costs because they wouldn't need to deploy interfaces specific to each type of protocol and bit rate. Additionally, they could eliminate one or more layers of service infrastructure. In fact, Frontier Corporation's new network will connect both IP and ATM directly to the optical layer via DWDM, bypassing the use of SONET for parts of this network.
