Hi, Alan. Options come from at least 3 exchanges (not just Chicago);
Philadelphia, Pacific and Chi. Quotes begin 15 minutes after the beginning of the market day (9:45 am Eastern Time Options start).

<amateur hour> hmmm... not sure where/why that phrase; I haven't run across it myself (yet). Arthur says it's an extremely high volume time for institutional trades and many times the true direction of the market for the day cannot be discerned until after the first
45 minutes of trading.

BTW: I wrote to Darin, giving him a snapshot update of his pals from the olden days (early 1990s), but never rec'd a reply.
