What I have learned is that the persons who actually cause revolutions are not the oppressed, but those who are just on the outside, close enough to see in, but not able to get there through ordinary means.

Excellent point, Cobalt. The group you mention typically includes the unemployed intellectual (or semi-intellectual), the failed poet, the artist manque. Hitler was a prime example.

As for the communists you mention, they must have been Americans, so no way could they ever have caused a revolution. Dull bunch, as a rule, except for the far-far-left frenziacs of the 60's, who were mostly Maoists anyway...
