Not all Web communities are equal

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS.MW) -- Long before the word "portal" became synonymous with "huge stock market valuation," the hot Internet business-model-buzzword was "community."

Sticky sites

Supposedly, communities are valuable because they are "sticky." In other words, they compel Web surfers to hang around a Web site rather than click away. This would, arguably, make a community Web site an attractive place for advertisers.
