Just got the announcement that @Home is available in my area!

This is making US West with their DSL service nervous, talk on the street is US West is going to drop their lower end (256k) service from $40 to $29, not including ISP charges. Cable in my area (Salt Lake City) is $40, and of course no additional ISP charge, tell me what the better deal is. I'll probably sign up for it in the next few week's. Since I may be moving in a few months its also nice to know that they will only charge me $50 for relocating. US Worst charges the full install price to do that. Nice to have competition for US Worst!!

Rob,

You are confused..

The choice is not between fancy portals. IT IS BETWEEN BANDWIDTH ON THE CABLE AND ON PHONE LINES! If you don't see a huge speed advantage you missed the whole point. Most researchers on this thread have pointed that out several times. Nearly all here would gladly pay that $40-50/month to have the SPEED of cable alone.

You in effect are comparing the fancy paint jobs on a Boeing737 and Cessna Turbo RG. You should be comparing speed and capacity to carry passengers.

FWIW
