Hi Frank and thread:
I have been following all of the arguments regarding QCOM on this thread and have even tried to follow the QCOM thread a bit. But I still cannot seem to put together all of the pieces for this company. Can someone please write up a quick outline on QCOM's strengths and gorilla qualifications? It would be very much appreciated. I am thinking that I want some shares, but I would rather not make the jump without knowing a little more.

In other news, the Gorilla and King Watch and Wait portfolio is up 78.8% since January!!! Naturally it is the Internut stocks who are leading the way, with RNWK up 433% and CMGI up 361%. Two other phenomenal performers have been UNPH (topic of lots of discussion on this thread) and GMST. And just imagine what the performance woulda been if QCOM hadn't recently graduated to the upper class :o) ???

Actually Uniphase is a company which has been building over the past couple of years at a rapid rate by swallowing several parts which are almost a whole. With the JDS Fitel merger the company will be a whole. The earnings are meaningless - a mixture of odd bits and pieces, charges for acquisitions, etc. etc. Sort of thing that Mike Buckley might penetrate with his skills but doubt many others could. As you know, I start with the technology and then pick the companies. For Fiber optics components the best have been Uniphase and JDS Fitel. Now they are merging. There are two other companies - both small - left in that field - fiber optic widget supply. So no question IMO the combined company will be dominant - a King. Chaz too PS Perhaps someone who enjoys accounting can help. I have little patience for such detail - as Mike reminds me from time to time. :-)
