"Seven Good Reasons for Mobile Agents" by Danny B. Lange, and Mitsuru Oshima of General Magic Inc. in Sunnyvale Ca.

I was just reading this article in my latest addition of ACM (Association for Computing Machinery), which is devoted to Multi-Agent systems on the Net and the use of Agents in E-commerce.

These two contributed a Major article to this months journal. Somewhat technical in nature, they outline the differences between 'mobile' agents and 'stationary' agents, and talk about the many advantages of using and designing mobile agents. Here's a tiny blurb:

"But be warned: Do not waste your time searching for the killer application for mobile agents. There are no mobile agent applications, but there are plenty of applications that benefit from using mobile agents. Several applications clearly benefit from the mobile agent paridgim:

E-commerce. [.....]
Personal Assistance. [....]
Secure Brokering. [....]
Distributed information retrieval. [....]
Telecommunication networks services. [....]
Workflow applications and groupware. [....]
Monitoring and Notification. [....]
Information dissemination. [....]
Parallell processing [....]

I couldn't be bothered to type in all of the details of this lengthy article, but I highly recommend you try and find the issue and read it for yourself. It seems like the use of agents in the future is going to be absolutely HUGE. I especially like this statement in the foreward article:

"There is still at least 313 BILLION of opportunity out there--most associated with Internet products and services that have not yet been invented..."

Whoa... Now if GM can only GRAB a piece of THAT pie...

Please feel free to post this on Yahoo, and also to the GMGC yahoo club.

Regards.

Robert
