Interesting thoughts lately...

on the introduction of the 700. How many other cults have such options to work with?

After twenty-four hours of thinking about it, I have to agree with the thread that this is nothing but good news. Frankly, I was getting a little worried that Rambus and Intel were so adamant about their position that some legitimate concerns of fabs and OEMS, who can not afford a misstep in the marketing and production of product, were not being considered. The 700 seems like an excellent compromise, not only because it can be produced more readily, but it produces the aforementioned by others marketing concept. Also, it puts some of the whiners in a genuine "put up or shut up" position as regards using their Rambus licenses and producing saleable product right now!

Also, as to companies delaying box purchases until late this year or early next, I agree. I am seeing this with my customers. Some are so afraid of Y2K that all IT resource is going there now, with non-y2k upgrades being pushed off. The usually slow first quarter of 2000 could be bigger for the box guys.

Also, as to need to upgrade hardware to handle new applications. Other than gamers, some companies really intend to make video conferencing a reality. The pipe needs to be there first, then the power in the machines to run it. I think the corporate networking markets could be the push for this next drive, either in 2000 or 2001.
