I used to trade only Canadian stocks, then moved to U.S. stocks, now trading S&P futures...but I moved to futures only when the market was totally dead so I shall be returning to trade Canadian stocks tomorrow as I finally got some Canadian datafeed again with Aspen Graphics.

I use Canaccord Capital for all my Canadian and U.S. equity trades. I worked there for 9 years and have a couple of good execution brokers there. The commish for Canadian stocks is amazingly low compared to firms like TD Greenline...and if you are a good customer, you don't have to worry about things like margin, so long as your account has decent equity. That's a bonus.

I even use them for American stocks even though I have an account at Discover, partly for the margin issue and also, because they speak directly to the market makers and get the orders done. It takes 15 seconds for a market order to be confirmed for me...on the phone. They don't sell their orders so they work the best price for you through the U.S. desk.
