William,
<<definition of the enterprise sector, please>>
Literally, a business organization. In the computer industry, the term is often used to describe any large organization that utilizes computers. An intranet, for example, is a good example of an enterprise computing system.

William,

<<Can you give me a definition of the enterprise sector, please?>>

Sure. Enterprise refers to the segment of the disk drive market that is typically high performance in specification and intended for integration to a disk array system in a "server" environment. It goes by other names as well such as "corporate", or "server" but to me "enterprise" is more descriptive. Porter's "Disk Trend" uses the term "Server". Here is a quote from their disk drive report last year:

"The breakdown shows that the 152.6 million unit shipments forecasted for 1998 will be 75.4% desktop drives, 12.1% mobile drives, and 12.4% server drives.>>

Most expect the "server" segment to be slightly up in unit market share this year. In terms of revenue the estimates range from 26% to 34% of the total market for the "high end" which is mostly server applications and workstation type systems.

Best,
Stitch
