Citrix MetaFrame Opens Windows for IBM AS/400 Users
Provides Secure, Scalable and Reliable Access to Windows-based and AS/400 Enterprise Applications
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 14, 1999-- Citrix Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:CTXS - news) today announced that its MetaFrame(tm) server-based computing software now supports IBM's Integrated Netfinity Server for AS/400, providing users access to Windows-based applications and AS/400 enterprise applications from a single, integrated server. Today's announcement broadens the reach of server-based computing to include IBM AS/400 mainframes, one of the most popular enterprise computing environments, enabling users to leverage IT investments while expanding AS/400 compatibility.
IBM's Integrated Netfinity Server is packaged to fit inside an AS/400 server, enabling administrators to easily install and run Citrix MetaFrame and Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition on a single server. With a client device such as a Windows-based terminal or IBM Network Station that incorporates Citrix Independent Computing Architecture (ICA(r)), users of enterprise-class AS/400 databases can simultaneously tap into Windows-based personal productivity applications and mission-critical ERP applications such as J. D. Edwards' OneWorld.
''This announcement is a further indication of how server-based computing is permeating the enterprise,'' said Steve Adams, vice president of worldwide marketing for Citrix. ''By providing additional support for IBM AS/400, MetaFrame now delivers Windows-based applications to new environments and new users. Customers can now combine the benefits of two business-critical systems - AS/400 and Windows - reducing the complexity of their infrastructure.''
''This is exactly the type of solution AS/400 users have been seeking,'' said Ann Reiten, market development manager, AS/400 enterprise systems for IBM. ''With MetaFrame, customers now enjoy easy, secure access to mission-critical Windows-based applications. This is a winning solution for our customers, reducing cost of ownership through highly scaleable, centralized, enterprise-wide administration.''
Over the years, AS/400 has established itself as a strong platform for J.D. Edwards' OneWorld software. ''Citrix's support of Netfinity Server for AS/400 allows J.D. Edwards customers to simplify administration and deployment of ERP packaged applications in mixed environments from an integrated server,'' said John Schiff, senior technologist, J.D. Edwards World Solutions. ''The solution enables our customers to respond to the ever-changing business environment, combining performance and flexibility in an integrated solution.''
