I contributed my little bit to 3dfx today. I went out and bought a V3 3000 at Best Buy (on sale for $150). Since I don't have a MB with an AGP slot, it's in my closet with my new sound card and speakers. I'm going to Boyne City, MI mid-week. When I get back, I'm going to choose the rest of my components and order them.

Patrick's choice of words didn't bother me too much - not different than his normal posts. He raised a good point - you have to know why you own the stock. As long as I stick by my discipline and make decent money overall (don't have to do it in every trade or every stock), I'm happy. When I was out for the very brief week it gave me a chance to re-examine why I'd want to own 3dfx and I decided to buy back in. Up over 50% since then.

Now I'm wondering what's holding up the proxy for the merger. The recent rise in price has made it much more expensive for 3dfx. I wonder if they're asking the SEC to approve "in process R&D" write-offs or something. Goodwill increases with every increase in the stock which means more amortization to overcome in future earnings. If they'd closed in their original time table (by early April), it would be a moot point.
