That's surprising. I thought no brokerage permitted short sales from an IRA under any circumstances.

By coincidence, I inadvertently tried to short out my IRA at Schwab last week when I forgot my position and tried to sell 1k shares of a stock I only owned 800 of. The message came back that they would accept the trade only if I agreed to good delivery of the missing 200.
