stefan...re e-commerce

"to bring in sells(assume you mean sales) dell would have to cut prices to below cost like the rest....."

and "the rest" who sell below their cost, cannot stay in business, while dell, who has never sacrificed profit for revenues watches as all the wannabees fall by the wayside....and who is left...dell, and the consumer no longer has the advantage...the market becomes more orderly.....

helloooooooooooo, anybody in there stefan....stop being so naive to think dell would be worried about a company like buy.com, whose latest tv advert has a man on all fours sniffing a golden labs ass...

Japan's Compaq to cut Corporate Prices by 20%- (Nikkei) per DJ wire today. Analyst have their feet in boiling water concerning the box makers. Will be interesting how it plays out Monday.

Stefan,

As pointed out to you on the AMAT thread, DELL isn't even remotely likely to compete with the guys who offer boxes without:

1. A floppy
2. A CDROM or DVD device
3. Adequate, general software
4. Adequate memory
5. A Monitor
6. Service
7. Everything else it takes to make customers happy.

But thanks for coming back to this thread where knowledgeable people can respond to your posts.

The buyers or receivers of the low cost / no cost PCs will be Dell Customers on the subsequent purchases. I see this as supporting Dell's mid to long term growth. Bringing in some more neophytes that will soon discover the value that Dell brings to the marketplace.

JMHO,
Ian.
