j.g. far too much emphasis is placed on IQ as a measure of intelligence. Someone, I recall, once measured Byron's intelligence retrospectively (at least half in jest, I presume), and came up with an IQ of 120 for him.

Artistic genius, in other words, is not measured by IQ tests, nor is simple artistic talent. Neither are other forms of intelligence, e.g. what has been called "social intelligence" (empathic understanding, etc.), the capacity for original thinking, etc., etc.

jg, I can't believe your figures are correct. Off the top of my head: about 2% of the population qualify for Mensa. Maybe you misplaced a decimal point?
