So, does anyone think that Compaq not being able to sell more boxes, and not being able to compete with Dell, is enough to derail the tech sector?

Yes I do, because the market is looking for any excuse to sell off.
Everyone should know that Cpq is a cockroach. I personally think EF waited until after the Dell meeting last week to drop the bomb just to tank Dell. Michael said Thursday that Dell was having a good quarter. That's because they are killing Cpq.

I agree Cpq problems should have very little effect on Aol but we all know how easily some of these fund managers panic.
Afterall, Cpq is responsible for selling millions on cheap internet computers (with AOL CD-ROM packaged inside) at a loss.

The individual retail investor historically holds long term, and buys the dips. The cool heads will do very well in the next few days. If Intc reports good numbers Tuesday the rally will begin.

Best Wishes

Long Aol, Dell Csco, Cmgi
