Remember in the early '70's when all of the american automakers laughed at the "cheap japanese s**tboxes" and made all the same arguments - "you get what you pay for" etc. 5 years later they were laughing out of the other side of their faces. The reality was that the japanese offered better quality and a better value at a lower price.

There is nothing substandard about the low-price machines, they do an excellent job for their target customers. I bought a machine for my daughter recently at under $600 and it was nicer than anything I have, and I have a lot of expensive machinery.

Is that what you think? These cheap pc's are no-frills, with crappy keyboards and mice (mouses?), limited memory or preloaded software, no service, etc etc. Have you bought one and find it better?

A rhetorical question: How many businesses have switched from Compaq's corporate desktops to sub $1K machines do you suppose? Do you think that businesses are likely to buy e-machines for computing needs?
