MS Office costs $500 retail. Only Dell, Gateway and Micron include this. As most companies have standardized on Word, Excel etc. I would never buy a PC without MS Office installed.
May not be relevant for e machines, however. If not, then a PC is the wrong machine, and a $200 set top box is the way to penetrate the mass market. Different market though.
Additionally, if buying for kids or teenagers, it would probably be wise to get MS Office to prepare for the big bad world where you'll probably have to use it if you use a computer at work.
