Paul, Re: n the 386 days, AMD had about 30% market share, their 386-40 was faster than Intel's best (33 MHz).

That was history and AMD investors don't care about that.
They just pick a snapshot of a time frame which would make
the result of AMD result looks great. The latest one, AMD
shipped more than 2M CPUs in March which beat any single
month figures for the complete K6 history. So again, AMD
is gaining market share for this month, not bad.

RE:"In the 386 days, AMD had about 30% market share, their 386-40 was

Things aren't so simple this time. When AMD had the 386-40 and Intel had the 386-33, Intel had a core in waiting to jump to to regain superiority. The 486.
When AMD came out with the K6-233, Intel soon distanced itself with the P-II.
This time, when AMD brings the K7, Intel has no new core answer for a year. Don't know why Intel has been caught off guard this time other than they have spent too much time on the Merced or AMD has a better attack plan this time.
