I've seen a lot of PR coming out of Westell - trial here, agreement there... Nothing grew out of those trials yet, nothing of substance. Quarterly and annual reports with bottom line which sucks and top line which sucks even more.

Is that about to change now?

PS: BA in that equation ain't no Boeing, dudes, 'cause with Alcatel it should've been Airbus

Yeah man....AMEN! It'd sure be nice to know who provides the chemical technology for the plastic parts used in those products included in the Bell Atlantic deal too. Just because Aware's deal is with ADI, LU, Siemens or STMicro and those folk's chips are bought buy other companies and then installed into products...we should be told Aware was somehow involved. We'd sure save a lot of our time doing research. Hell we should even know who is responsible for the logo graphics so we'd know the software used by the artist.

Just trying to point out that the type of product & services provided in these deals leave many involved somewhat obscure. And it's neither a publicly known fact one way or another sometimes. It could be written into the license agreement Aware has with these companies..thus preventing Aware from stealing their PR thunder. Most likely it would be conditional as to how a company like Aware can divulge such information.

Good luck with WSTL and all your investments Dave.

Talk about hype. How many revenue dollars is this 5 year "extension" of the Westell "relationship" with BEL worth?

And even if we did have some revenue numbers to consider this being more than just a BEL media event that WSTL continues to perform as a prop/supporting actor (dare I say, circus dog?) for, but gets no firm $$ commitments from, what kind of margins do you think WSTL could get? Do you think WSTL is in ANY kind of position to negotiate a decent deal?

Anyway, WSTL aside, regarding the following Feb Forbes AWRE press (previously posted here):

"..Aware has a simple business model: It develops its technology for other companies in exchange for licensing and royalty fees, which in the fourth quarter made up more than 75% of its revenues. Since last October, Aware's stock has surged from 4.25 to a recent high of 44.50, primarily on the news that the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) had designated Aware's DSL Lite, or G.Lite, technology the DSL standard. Aware, in turn, has licensed its G.Lite software to companies like Lucent (LU), which then sells it to computer maker Compaq (CPQ), Analog Devices Inc. (ADI), Siemens and 3Com (COMS)..."

from forbes.com

First, this is blatantly incorrect. G.Lite (G.992.2) is in NO WAY "theirs" (Aware's). Aware has an implementation of it, but so do a *number* of others.

As some here may know, I have been following this field and technology for several years. I have contacts with many in this industry, including some of the brightest pioneering engineers and scientists working on xDSL. According to trustable sources, a thorough patent search on AWRE patents uncovers *not a single Aware assigned patent* which would be *necessary* for implementing G.Lite (G.922.2).

Further, the ITU made NO such designation of "the DSL standard". In fact, there are multiple ITU DSL standards, one for HDSL (G.991.1), one for full-rate DMT (G.992.1), one for G.lite (G.992.2), and now in progress is HDSL2 (G.Shdsl) & VDSL (G.Vdsl).

Presumably Charles Dubow, the above article's author, simply was sloppy in his research in writing and submitting this story, and Forbes did not bother to check the accuracy of his details. This reflects quite poorly on Dubow/Forbes. And though it's highly doubtful that any of this came from Tzannes or the Aware camp, if it in fact DID, I understand this would be a blatant and likely actionable misrepresentation from AWRE.

Does anyone here know where Dubow got these incorrect details from?
