Tokyo stocks down as Compaq news

TOKYO, April 12 (Reuters) - Tokyo stocks extended losses by
mid-afternoon trade on Monday, as investors took a more
cautious stance on blue-chip technology stocks after Compaq
Computer Corp (NYSE:CPQ - news) announced a
lower-than-expected forecast for first-quarter profits, traders
said.

At 0436 GMT, the Nikkei 225 average was down 236.25 points or 1.40 percent at 16,619.38.
June Nikkei futures <0#JNI:> traded 210 points lower at 16,640.
