'Old' is a subjective judgement call made from the point of view of the individual. Doesn't mean a great deal in the great scheme of things - not so many years ago this whole coast was wiped clean of not only timber, but topsoil and great slices of bedrock, by the last ice age. Do you know why there were great stands of 400-600 year old Douglas Fir in the Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island area? - because the Indians used to burn off the 'old-growth' timber to stimulate berries and browse for deer. Douglas Fir stands up to fire more than other species, it seeds into a burn fast, it won't grow in the shade - left untouched those areas would have largely been a climax forest of cedar and hemlock, which will grow in the shade. Check out Cathedral Grove, it's going through an accelerated transition right now, those 'old-growth' firs are succumbing to age, and the saplings you see growing up around the rotting windfalls are largely cedar and hemlock. Anyway, i didn't say it became 'old-growth' in 30 years, that was just another of your little red herrings. And my comparison of cultures can hardly be portrayed as 'whining and complaining' about anything or anybody, it was a simple and imho accurate statement of the way things are in resources in this country in 1999. Back a few posts you jump on Lorne Larson for being an American - well i think you are assuming entirely too much as a general habit, and that would explain your politics. I recommend travel as a cure. My last mexicano stock purchase was Azteca, very recently and only a few. Probably a better deal than Aber, I see the ADRs on New York are selling under 6US ... no environmental studies or Indians or Canadian tax structure to deal with, just the thieves of el DF. The last sizable mexicano investment was land, though, as will be the next. I travel mostly on a Canadian passport, fwiw, not that it's any of your business. You've never travelled, have you - i mean beyond little 2 and 4 week vacations? I recommend it - travel and a few beers would take that shrill tone of bitterness out of your voice, take that scowl off your face, get you some perspective ...... cheers
