Thanks for your comments..

Regarding Stefan: I have no problem with bears coming on the thread or bear positions...In the past, I have often commended bears on well-thought-out positions, even if I disagree with every point that they make...

I addressed Stefan because much of his post was diatribe, and he provided little data....each post containing a "gotcha" comment...

Stefan has some interesting arguments...it would be valuable to all of us if he would just stay with those...

Concerning Italy: We are partly talking a question of language/culture here. In some parts of the world, geographic terms are used differently. In Venezuela, for example, North & South America are, by many, considered "the Americas", one continent.
Most English-speaking Americans would consider North and South America as separate continents.

I did not read all the edamo/stefan posts, but it appears that stefan first attacked edamo's definition, not the other way around...Like it or not, English is spoken on this thread, and the vast majority of thread members are Americans or Canadians...that does mean that only these views can be represented, but it does mean, I believe, that generally accepted definitions of such things as geography, at the very least, the American version is acceptable...In the U.S., Italy is considered Western Europe, among other things, so Stefan was wrong to attack edamo (if I have gotten the attack-order wrong, I then apologize)....Given the predominence of U.S./Canadians here, it would not make sense to correct such a standard definition of geography, even if there are other views in other parts of the world (Australian maps upside-down <G>)

BTW- I am half-German, and have lived and worked in Germany. With a little explanation, I think many Germans would accept edamo's definition as well...
