I'm very happy to hear about eBay teaming up with shipping companies. I spend my life doing nothing buy selling antique art on eBay. My biggest complaint is buyers complaining or not wanting to pay for packing and shipping. With this development buyers will be more aware of how much it cost to ship things. It seems it may also open up the market place to sell large items such as furniture, which right now is next to impossible to ship, or afford to ship.
I was at a flea market this morning (6 am) and a person who lives out of there camper and travels selling jewelry was complaining that eBay has stolen the market place. It has! Every flea market and antique show it talking about eBay. People are giving up shows because selling on eBay is easier and faster turn over and better prices. I have found that since there is so much volume and merchandise available to anyone, dealer and retail person alike, the prices are starting to slow down. The novelty of buying something on line is fading. Right now there it too much competition on eBay alone. I think eBay will be heading for a balancing out time, but I see myself continuing to sell. I see myself going back and looking for bargains for resale. Before the prices were just too high.
Finally I have to say I laugh when Sotheby's, Amazon and Yahoo and all these other auction houses try to do what eBay is. Why would any one switch? I wouldn't sell on these other ones because no one is there looking. I look every once in a while to buy, but the things I want to buy aren't there. What Sotheby's plans to do is already being done by smaller auction houses, and most people can't afford Soethby's material, and dealers won't go there because they can buy a bargain like they can joe-smoe on eBay.
