I'd challenge your expressed thoughts on the subject as being half true, like someone not caring how they dress or if there's food on their face after eating. Look at the evidence in our lives really closely and you'll see it.

* You were attracted to the subject when it was posted

* Your kids are intentionally sent to a premium school

* There is a significant difference between testing 130 and 160 on another.. and its not a common occurance if at all, unless the first test was centered for evaluating a norm of 100 like the SBinet.

* We live in a society that rewards performance with status symbols and few of us really slide by that podium without being affected.

* In our minds eye we remember dating the pretty girl, the athletic star, the achievers in society's value system. We don't put report cards with D averages on the wall, we put trophy's on the shelf and take pictures when we do well.. and for the most part doing well is defined in socially competetive terms.

* There are loners.. who are most often branded renegades or even outcast if they don't contribute in some way. An asocial person who's mentally handicapped is forgiven while an asocial genius is suspect and seen as a threat.

The real problem with IQ tests is that they aren't seen like winning the high jump or being the faster sprinter, or the long distance runner. Its unfortunately been used to make general comments on racial issues, to uplift or take down groups of people as being "naturally" available to giftedness or not. This is most unfortunate as genius occurs in every race of people, on every continent, with little regard to social background. Giftedness is another expression of nature seeking survival and mankind seeking understanding and achievement. If we recognized and encouraged these qualities in our children as much as we do football players and prom queens we'd have a better society.
