john: All good points. But I think a "Mason is going" would be better. I, personally, would like to EP go. But the two of them together would smack of panic. Also there are many throughout the world who think that COMPAQ is EP - he has not done such a bad job of growing it in the past - whatever stumbles are now apparent - and, despite what the Monday morning quarterbacks are saying, the DEC acquisition was dirt cheap and absolutely essential for the growth and an even survival of the company. (Wait until AV exceeds CPQ in market capitalisation).

As for the correctness of Dell versus Mason/EP - it's like listening to opposing politicians spinning. I think MD is far better at it than EP but I don't think that makes him more reliable on the truth. than EP.

john: A "Pfeiffer/Mason are being eased out" announcement PLUS an Alta-Vista announcement on the 21st would boost the stock a few points, IMO...

Add on the announcement of a major restructuring and it would be off to the races!
