E-machines about as much threat to Dell as a flea on a rhinocerous.
1. How many years did it take for Dell to construct all those factories and how much money did it take.?
2. Where does E-machines get the people and the qualified designers
3. How do they get first in line for new Intel processors and Msft
software products.?
4. Where are the DVD's and Zip drives that 40% of Dell customers ask for on their computers.
5. Where are the profits?
6. How many government agencies do they sell to?
I wouldn't touch an IPO on that company.
Sig

The $400 price delta is not what you imagine (it's closer
to $200)... nor is the machine necessarily inferior for the
home user tasks it will perform... The cost delta is partially
an illusion predicated on configuration slight of hand.

There are thousands of components that make up a PC, not just
CPU, memory, HD etc. There are many, many places to shave
costs... like using resistors with 5% tolerance as opposed
to 1%. How extensively are eMachines tested compared to Dell?
Use cheaper components that the consumer can't see or compare
like plastics, connectors, glue logic, MB layer count...
reduce test permutations, reduce support, and settle for
thinner margins and presto, you have a lower cost offering.
