It is kind of nice to be able to call on my husband for help in things that just stymie me, like statistics. He is almost like a computer about the things he is good at, the kind of computer they only have in movies, you know, "Computer, what is the answer?" and the computer tells you.

I wish we could talk about anything and everything. That sounds very nice.

"Son, make sure you don't marry someone in your field. There is too much danger of you arguing shop, and it getting personal. No - marry someone from the humanities. That way you can enrich each other."

My mother had somewhat similar advice for another reason. In a profession that is intense and demanding, there is no "down time." Work is always there. On the other hand, it can be a special comfort to have someone who knows exactly the quality of what is making one moody or worrying one.
