Exodus Extends Leadership to the Pan-European Market
Company Announces Plans for First European Internet Data Center Opening and Transatlantic STM1 Link From the United States to the United Kingdom
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 12, 1999-- Exodus Communications(tm), Inc. (Nasdaq:EXDS - news), a leading provider of Internet system and network management solutions for enterprises with mission-critical operations, today announced it is extending its Internet Data Center (IDC) network to the United Kingdom.

Exodus(tm) plans to offer its hallmark Internet server hosting services in the UK by the end of the second quarter 1999, providing an unprecedented option for companies to expand their global presence on the Internet.

With the opening of the UK IDC, Exodus offers U.S. companies serving the UK and Europe, as well as European-based companies, a state-of-the-art hosting facility tailored to meet the unique demands of sophisticated, multi-vendor, mission-critical Internet operations.

Through its recent alliance with MCI WorldCom, Exodus has also established a STM1 Link (equivalent of OC-3 bandwidth) between its New York and UK IDC facilities to deliver scalability, high availability and performance of Internet operations. Exodus IDC's serve as a virtual extension of the corporate enterprise, making it possible for companies to reduce ongoing network operating costs and take control to ensure availability and reliability of mission-critical Internet operations.

''We're pleased to be the first to offer this premier combination of facilities and services in Europe, in keeping with our mission to help companies with vital Internet operations reduce the cost, risk and complexities traditionally associated with network computing,'' said Ellen Hancock, CEO and president of Exodus. ''The growth of our European operations through our own efforts and strategic relationships with world-class partners such as MCI WorldCom provides much-needed infrastructure.''

In addition, Exodus provides customers with access to scarce Internet systems management expertise, which is crucial for providing reliable Internet services and quickly expanding Internet capabilities. The unparalleled combination of capacity and services has garnered Exodus a reputation in the U.S. for premier support, at one-sixth the cost of building and running a private data center.

The critical role that infrastructure providers play in fast, secure transactions and business operations via the Internet is expected to help fuel international growth of e-commerce and other business sectors. According to Forrester Research, business trade on the Internet is projected to grow from $879 million to $56.7 billion in 2001 due to companies' traditional focus on regional and international markets, the start of transactions in euros and higher PC and Net penetration in the workplace (Forrester Report: Europe's Internet Growth, April 1998).
