Tells you how much Merrill knows, next thing you know they'll upgrade CPQ to a 'Strong Buy' on account of the low..low price, world class management and NO P/E-'Real value there' they probably would say. Another thing they might say is that CPQ missing the estimate by over 50% is all a nonsense and bull crap since they are increasing the earnings from 1 penny to 15 and that is a 'whopping' 1400% increase in sequential growth in earnings.Surprisingly people will buy it too, this is what I am thinking.

All I can find is this:

Merrill Lynch & Co. analyst Steve Milunovich said issues expected to affect Compaq's first-quarter earnings are likely to continue into subsequent quarters. "This probably isn't just a one-quarter problem", he said. "There are some structural issues at Compaq."

No mention of Dell.
