Sonny Blue and All: I recently posted the following on The Captain's thread, but I think it is worth posting twice... ---------------------- Jim: You and I often think alike, we just say it differently some times. For the first time since I started posting on SI, the Market has me really second guessing my system. I always usually get out a little early and get back in a little late. Hey, close is good enough for me. Of course, I am talking about my medium term and longer term investing, not my daytrading...a completely different strategy. The truth is, no systems is right all the time, you know it and I know it. When the Market starts sending divergent signals, often the big boys will send in a few head fakes just to keep everyone off balance, before the ultimate direction is revealed. The thing I have learned to do years ago, as it seems you have as well, is preserve the capital in times of uncertainty. Of course, you will always have those that will run around patting themselves on the back telling everyone they were right, if the Market goes in their "called" direction. But the truth is those same folks are often no where to be seen after a bad call...<g> Also, if you are bullish or bearish long enough, the Market will eventually accommodate your call. Does that make you finally right? I think not. Of course, it is always easier to call the trend and be right as well. The trick is to call the reversals and be right most of the time. That is not an easy job and often you have to stand your ground in the face of many throwing the current trend in your face. And often those hearing you calling for a coming reversal, assume you are not taking advantage of the continuing trend. This is sometimes true and sometimes not. For me this time not, as I went to cash at 9800. So far I am ok, with that. But the knuckles are getting whiter...<g> I have said them before, but I will say my two most favorite sayings again...NO ONE EVER WENT BROKE TAKING PROFITS and THE OLD PROSPECTORS KNEW, WHEN THE GRUBSTAKE WAS GONE, THE HUNT FOR GOLD WAS OVER. So, the prudent things to do are ride your wins, close your losers ASAP and when not sure, sit on the fence. The game will always be out there...always! I always enjoy reading your post...Captain...That one would have made a good “Rumblings” article...<g> Regards, LG
