Yup, and consulting firms made a fortune playing with the numbers to get around the controls. After that was over the consultants moved on to Medicare cost reimbursement. -g-

Tom I think there was but nothing like the stuff we had under
IKE, I guess most people don't recall it now, but after Korea
we hit an almost run away inflation before anyone knew it was
coming ( there were ceiling prices on most every thing posted
even in the grocery stores ) it didn't exactly stop the price
gouging like the neighbor hood I lived in most people had
( tabs ) and bought groceries on credit from the store , living
hand to mouth every week, and while the ceiling prices kept
some basic needs from going sky high, most of the stores
( padded the bills with extra items & to those who could afford it
the least ) so as a teenager found out what most Republicans meant when they talked about Free enterprise.

PS Heck I can remember the ration stamps of WWII when I was a kid,
on such items as suger , gas and such , I knew some people who
kept a car they didn't drive just to get the stamps and sell them
on the black market. While the black market was hated by the
Republicans for the most part it helped out the poorest of people
as they gave up their suger stamps for a few dollars to buy some
potatoes, and not even the cops had the heart to bust them.
But of course if we would have had someone like STAR as president
he would have likely shot them as traders to the country. <G>
