Re the handset business, to the best of my knowledge, all of Q's handset manufacturing is tied up in the joint venture with Sony. They may not have as much exposure as we think. I doubt that the Sony/Qualcomm financial arrangements will be made public, so I think we'll just have to rely on the good judgement of Q management. They've done pretty well so far <g>.

CISCO TO ACQUIRE GEOTEL FOR $2B

Getting off Q for just a moment, Reuters just announced that Cisco will acquire GeoTel (GEOC) for $2B. This is part of Cisco's VOIP strategy; GeoTel's profile from Yahoo Finance reads:

GEOC provides Computer Telephony Integration software solutions focused on enhanced voice and data routing technology that enable customer-oriented companies to deliver responsive and cost-effective customer service. For the fiscal year ended 12/98, revenues totalled $44.9 million, up from $18.6 million. Net income rose 45% to $9 million.
