Sorry, I don't see it as a matter of strategy. Anyone can have a strategy. To me, it comes down to EXECUTION. Intels path of heaping different caches on the P6 core is clearly easier to execute.
No way can AMD keep up with Intels execution. Their best hope is what they are doing. Leapfrog Intels fastest chip with a chip that scales well, with a monster FPU. Get it to market in a basic form and tweak, tweak, tweak.
Of course, like a lot of Intelabees you could question AMD just taking on Intel. That's really an arrogant thing to do. If you think AMD is crazy then you don't have to buy their stock. This is one reason I have little sympathy for these lawsuits.
