Comdisco gains further on digital line business
Reuters Story - April 12, 1999 14:42
CHICAGO, April 12 (Reuters) - Shares of technology services provider Comdisco Inc. climbed higher Monday on buying generated by interest in the company's digital subscriber line (DSL) business, analysts said.

In March, Comdisco acquired Prism Communications Services Inc., a provider of high-speed data access for small businesses in the New York metropolitan area.

"People are becoming more intrigued about what potential Prism might add to Comdisco over time," said Mark Jordan, analyst with A.G. Edwards. "Clearly, some people are placing sizable investments with the assumption that there is going to be some real upside valuation."

Comdisco has said it eventually hopes to offer DSL and other services through Prism to all of its corporate customers.

Michael Grondahl, analyst with US Bancorp Piper Jaffray, said in a research note released Monday that he believes Comdisco will differentiate itself from other DSL companies who offer high-speed Internet access by offering bundled services like backup and disaster recovery services.

Analysts said investors are also taking another look at the company following its announcement in March that it would shed its low-margin mainframe leasing and medical equipment refurbishing business to focus on more profitable technology services.

"I think there is a lot of value in this company that people are starting to recognize following the changes they made," Grondahl said.

Shares of Comdisco rose to a 52-week high of 27-1/2 and were trading up 3-7/16 at 26-3/16 in afternoon trade.
