In fact, I'm not adopting this interpretation for any other reason than that, on the basis of my reading and investigation, I conclude that it's the analysis that is by far the strongest and best supported. A document could be found tomorrow, Jesus's autobiography in Aramaic, say, that would completely change the body of evidence from which these judgments are made, of course. I don't need to stick to the position I've stated here; I state the position because, in my mind, and the minds of those scholars I most respect, it fits the facts as they now appear. And of course I agree that we live in a Judeo-Christian civilization, and are all imbued with various of its tenets, and enjoy its cultural artifacts. N.
