"This overly bold call gained him alot of attention, pity he is wrong and will be caught not having done his homework."

What will be his punishment? 22.5 million shares traded today. LUCENT is one company that keeps getting bad press from all sides whenever there is the slightest reason to dish it out.

It may be a dislike for anything that has a genetic line to old AT&T. Before the spin-off of LUCENT and NCR...when Bob Allen was running old AT&T...the press and the media enjoyed hammering on him.

Sort of reminds me of those who dislike Clinton. They hate the guy no matter what. I didn't vote for him in either of his elections..however, I had to admire his stamina under the onslaught of negativity from all sides who were privileged to have access to the bully pulpit.

Some companies hardly ever have to suffer anything negative appearing anywhere. I don't know when I have ever seen anything written that was bad about GE. That company just goes on forever.

I'm still hoping that LUCENT will move up in the next 5 or 6 trading days before they announce earnings after the bell on 4/22/99. Seeing it closing at around an average of 63 1/2 through the last three days of last week had my hopes up that it would stay up.

No such luck. Bushwackers were lurking to take advantage of the quiet of the weekend to do his/her dirty deeds.

"including CFO Don Peterson who said point blank at the Merrill Lynch conference that LU would make the $8 billion revenue number."

When did this ML conference take place? Thanks.

I am thinking of shorting LU and buying ASND. Don't underestimate an analyst's downgrade. When an analyst (I forgot his name at the moment) downgraded DELL before last earning, many people on the SI DELL thread called him crazy, stupid and other 4-letter-word adjectives. Even though I did not lower myself to that level, I believed the analyst was wrong and held on to my DELL shares which I bought at $90. The day DELL's earning came out, it droped to $75 because the analyst was correct. Of course, if you invest long term, today's drop is a good oppoturnity and not a bad thing.
Just my $.02.

Thanks for the characterization of Soundview.
I was pleased with the strong upside price action
following the split.
And equally disgusted with the hammering
after this Soundview downgrade.

Long. For a long time.
