John... do the market makers manipulate the volume?

I seem to remember similar arguments about price manipulation of traders and MM's with AMZN last fall.
The shorts got killed: over and over, and over.

John:

<<Stock manipulation>>

In that case the entire internet sector is a manipulation. No....let's take it further: the entire tech sector and let's throw in the DOW stocks and even the S&P 500 since they are at historic valuations.

The trouble you are having is working within the new realities of the suppply/demand relationship for equities (what pundits keep calling "the new paradigm", a term which I hate because it makes it all sound so phony). It boils down to the fact that more Americans are using the equities market as a savings account both directly and via tax-priviledged accounts. NEWS FLASH: the boomer generation is at the peak of pre-retirement savings! In addition, factor in the influx of foreign capital to "the only game in town": the US equities market. Finally weigh in the fact that capital markets are unattractive at current interest rates. This all spells one word: liquidity. Brokers, fund managers, investment banks are awash in cash in an unprecendented manner. In the current configuration, it will all be onward and upward for equities until and unless the equation changes drastically.
