NEW YORK, April 13 (Reuters) - Wall Street, now in record territory, may be hinged at the open to March's consumer price report.

But the focus will quickly turn to earnings news and to the positive momentum that has gripped the U.S. stock market.

''It certainly looks very powerful the news remains very positive,'' said Peter Cardillo, director of research at Westfalia Investments.

March consumer prices are expected to rise due to higher oil prices.

Analysts say the market could shrug off the price increases as news that it has already factored in.

''CPI is expected to be up because of the oil, I don't think its going to be that difficult,'' said Larry Wactel, market analyst at Prudential Securities.

The data is due at 0830 EDT/1230 GMT. Analysts polled by Reuters are expecting the index to move up 0.3 percent and, excluding food and energy, to rise 0.2 percent. March retail sales will also be released at that time.

The first quarter earnings reporting season moves into full swing with a number of blue chip companies reporting.
