There are enough experiments on serotonin, and also on testosterone, to raise some intriguing questions about feed-back. Lab animals that are "successful" have more serotonin "available," I would say "make" more serotonin, but that may be inaccurate. Animals which have less serotonin are irritable, and more likely to get in fights. It's kind of a vicious circle. People with low self-esteem have less serotonin, and if they succeed at tasks, have more serotonin available.

Animals and men who win battles make more testosterone. The ones who are defeated make less. Again, a vicious circle.
