I agree with you completely stockman, but the problem is most investors grow up with a buy and hold mentality pounded into their brains. Then they watch CNBC and the analysts, read the money magazines, and subscribe to newsletters which pound the buy and hold even more.

It's hard to sell a stock people once loved; others just refuse to open their eyes and admit they screwed up.

Personally, selling CPQ was my best move in the past six months ($$ into AOL), but I also waited WAY TOO LONG. In the mid 40's, I was "comfortable with my profit", and that held me back.

My main problem right now is getting "diversification" pounded out of my head.

On a more specific note, I'm curious why you haven't considered ATHM. Seems poised for incredible growth, and unless the ASDL technology eliminated cable modems (which it probably won't), this one seems to be set for incredible gains.

Wish we'd have seen MCNS move up today, but we'll have our day. I'm not making the same mistake I made with WCAP (sold at 20......OUCH)

Best Regards, and I'll be in AWRE very soon as it looks GRRRREAT. Still unsure about MSGI though.

Brett

Moneyline News Hour: Paul Meeks of Merril Lynch Tech Fund says CPQ problems are company specific, and he has always liked DELL better. He says that even GTW looks like a better investment than CPQ.

Lou Dobbs raises doubts about 5fer's credibility. HA HA HA!

dead cat with VERY few good reasons to bounce.

Couldn't you express yourself a little differently?

Scott, re: It is tough to regain credibility and re-invent a flawed business model

Especially for a company the size of Compaq in the high-tech industry. I think that DEC acquisition is going to be like cancer for them until they start laying people off and cutting costs like crazy - much like DEC did every six months or so.

Stockman: I think what I am really saying is, don't let joking around about cpq lull you into underestimating Gerstner. He never knew a damn thing about the computer business. But he is one hell of a ruthless marketing person. I am concerned about our "love" of making fun of 5er---when the real ace in the hole for the enterprise, is still in the hands of Gerstner. When it comes to bidding for huge contracts in the future---watch IBM vs Dell. I even question what is really behind this latest big deal between ibm and dell. I am much older than you are, and have seen many sly IBM moves. When they are focused----watch out below. Just trying to help. Sorry to appear to be picking on you today. Just don't want anyone to underestimate the challenges ahead, even as good as dell is!!! (btw, can't wait for our next dinner on College avenue!!)
