Yahoo! Internet Life's Explosive Growth Continues; Fastest-Growing MagazineIn the Country Raises Rate Base to 700,000 with September Issue
NEW YORK, April 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Ziff-Davis (NYSE: ZD) today announced that Yahoo! Internet Life, the country's preeminent Web magazine, will increase its rate base from 600,000 to 700,000 in September 1999. According to Executive VP/Group Publisher Jim Spanfeller, Yahoo! Internet Life has experienced phenomenal growth since its inception, with a rate base that has soared a whopping 600% since its launch, Yahoo! Internet Life is currently the fastest-growing monthly magazine in the country with a circulation greater than 450,000, according to ZD Analysis of the Audit Bureau of Circulation's FAX FAX report for the six month period ending December 31, 1998.
In the fall of 1995, Yahoo! Internet Life was launched as a quarterly with a rate base of 100,000. Having since gone bi-monthly in May 1996 and then monthly in August 1996, the magazine's circulation has grown exponentially. With its September 1999 issue, Yahoo! Internet Life will again increase its rate base to 700,000 a month -- a clear indication of tremendous consumer demand. "Web users are a growing, affluent, and intelligent audience who look to Yahoo! Internet Life for information on the usefulness and entertainment value of the Internet," says Spanfeller. "Our numbers have been phenomenal, so moving the rate base up again was a natural progression for the magazine."
Yahoo! Internet Life has employed a very successful way to attract its Net-savvy subscribers -- by offering subscriptions on the Internet. As a result, it has been able to avoid relying solely on the traditional, and costly, method of direct mail to build its circulation. After four issues in 1999, the magazine has already received 294,000 subscription orders online.
Yahoo! Internet Life's Internet-derived subscriber acquisition model has helped spur the magazine's phenomenal growth, while maintaining a pre-screened, quality Internet user audience.
Yahoo! Internet Life has experienced a standout year in advertising page growth, with ad paging having increased 86.5 pages, or 48.3%, for January-May 1999 versus the same period last year, according to Publishers Information Bureau. The magazine has also been recognized for its circulation and advertising growth with several industry honors, including Advertising Age's "Best Magazine" Award, Adweek's "10 Hot Magazines Under $30 Million," and Circulation Management's 1998 Award for Circulation Excellence for consumer magazines with a circulation between 400,000 and 999,999.
